Koyoltzintli

Koyoltzintli is an interdisciplinary artist from the Pacific coast of Manabí, Ecuador, working across sound, performance, and sculpture. Her practice approaches clay as both sonic vessel and archival medium, rooted in research on Indigenous epistemologies of the Americas. Her handmade ceramic instruments include meticulous reconstructions of pre-Columbian sound objects that have not been played in over a millennium.

Commissioned by Soon Is Now to create the promotional campaign for Tinkuy, the design approach was straightforward: let Koyo's art speak for itself. All print materials and social media content were built around her actual sound objects, composed to reflect their ceremonial presence and designed to carry the same weight as the works themselves.

Project Scope:

— Marketing + Content Strategy
— Poster Design
— Postcard Design
— Social Media Graphics
— Art Direction + Image Curation

The Team:

— Amy White Eyes Doermann: Graphic Design, Creative Direction + Campaign Strategy
— Eve Morgenstern, Soon is Now: Founder + Producer
— Koyoltzintli: Artist

Design that moves through the world.

This collaboration extended beyond graphic design to include strategic consulting, advising on print format decisions and distribution planning. Online post sequencing, phrasing, and tagging were campaign critical to ensure the event reached the right audiences.

Both performances sold out.

“Sound marks time, and these objects — so specific to the time and place when they were created — also fold time when they are played."
